drip coffeemaker or pad/capsule coffee maker?

Choosing a coffeemaker is kind of a lifestyle thing. Which is the best choice for yourself or your family among those various of coffee makers? Hope you can get some ideas here.

Drip coffeemaker

How it works: Today’s most popular coffee maker works by forcing heated water to drip through a filter filled with ground coffee.

Pros: Easy to use. Simple to clean. Relatively fast. Can make from four to 12 cups. Limitless choice of coffees can be used.

Cons: If carafe stays on heating element too long it overheats coffee, making it bitter. (A thermal carafe can eliminate this problem.) Can be wasteful if entire pot isn’t consumed.

Best for: Coffee drinkers who want more than just one cup or households with several coffee drinkers. Those who like to try a variety of coffees.

Pod/capsule coffee makers

How it works: The newest coffee makers brew individual cups using ready-to-use packets of coffee. The machine forces water through the packets or pods of coffee with a bit of pressure.

Pros: Doesn’t waste coffee. Consistent coffee. Very fast. Coffee comes out steaming hot. Because the coffee is in a vacuum-packed pod, it’s fresh. No measuring, spilling or messy cleanup. Easy to use; just put the pod in place, fill it with water and press a button or two.

Cons: More expensive than an auto drip since you have to buy the coffee pods. Have a limited choice of coffees because you have to use coffee pods made by your machine’s manufacturer. No choice in the strength of the brew. Only makes one cup at a time.

Best for: Someone who doesn’t drink much coffee, but wants it fast and uncomplicated.
